Amazon is on track to surpass Walmart in quarterly revenue for the first time, with analysts projecting $187 billion in sales for Amazon compared to Walmart’s expected $180 billion. While Walmart still leads in annual revenue—forecasted at $681 billion for the year—Amazon’s rapid growth, fueled by its cloud division AWS and booming e-commerce, is narrowing the gap. If estimates hold, Amazon will hit $638 billion in annual revenue, marking its first time above $600 billion. Walmart has held the quarterly revenue crown since 2012, but Amazon’s momentum suggests a shifting retail landscape.
Peloton reported mixed Q2 results, with revenue beating estimates at $674 million (vs. $654 million expected) but a wider-than-expected loss of 24 cents per share (vs. 18 cents expected). The company slashed costs in key areas, driving adjusted EBITDA to $58.4 million—more than double analyst expectations. While hardware sales declined 21%, Peloton improved margins and saw strong holiday sales through Costco. Under new CEO Peter Stern, the company is prioritizing profitability over sales growth, forecasting weaker Q3 revenue but stronger-than-expected cash flow, with hopes of revenue stabilization by year-end. Shares surged 13% in response.
Eli Lilly reported mixed Q4 results, with earnings beating expectations at $5.32 per share (vs. $4.95 expected) but revenue slightly missing at $13.53 billion (vs. $13.57 billion expected), as lower realized prices for Mounjaro offset strong demand. The company reaffirmed its 2025 sales guidance of $58-61 billion and projected earnings of $22.05 to $23.55 per share. While Mounjaro and Zepbound fell short of forecasts for the second straight quarter, Eli Lilly expects to ramp up incretin drug production by 1.6 times in early 2025, signaling efforts to meet surging demand.
