  1. China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has officially blocked Meta’s $2 billion acquisition of the AI agent startup Manus, ordering both parties to unwind the transaction immediately. The move, which cites national security and export control regulations, represents a major blow to the "Singapore-washing" model used by many Chinese-founded startups to bypass geopolitical scrutiny. Manus, which hit a historic $100 million ARR in just eight months, is considered a leader in general-purpose AI agents capable of high-level coding and market research, making it a "strategic asset" that Beijing is unwilling to see fall under American control.

  2. The Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement is facing a major policy schism with the Trump administration this week, centred on the controversial weedkiller glyphosate. As the Supreme Court hears arguments regarding Bayer’s "failure to warn" liability and the House prepares to debate the 2026 Farm Bill, the alliance that helped secure the 2024 election is under significant strain. While HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has attempted damage control, the administration’s legal defence of Bayer and the GOP-led "pesticide liability shield" in the Farm Bill has prompted MAHA leaders to warn of a potential voter exodus ahead of the 2026 midterms.

  3. British oil major Shell announced a definitive agreement on Monday to acquire Calgary-based ARC Resources in a transaction valued at $16.4 billion. The deal marks a significant expansion of Shell’s footprint in the Montney shale basin, a premier natural gas and liquids play in Western Canada. Shell CEO Wael Sawan characterized the acquisition as a strategic move to secure high-quality, low-cost, and low-carbon intensity assets that will bolster the company's energy resource base for decades.
