  1. China’s industrial sector defied global energy volatility in March, posting a 15.8% year-over-year profit jump—its fastest growth in six months. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, this surge was driven by a historic boom in high-tech manufacturing and artificial intelligence, which saw profits climb 47.4% in the first quarter. While the ongoing Middle East conflict has driven Brent crude prices up nearly 48% since February, China’s heavy reliance on coal and renewables, coupled with large "onshore inventories" of Iranian oil, has allowed its manufacturers to maintain a competitive edge and capture export market share from global peers facing more direct energy disruptions.

  2. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, India’s largest drugmaker, announced a definitive agreement to acquire New Jersey-based Organon & Co. in an all-cash transaction valued at $11.75 billion. Shares of Sun Pharma jumped 7% on the news, as the deal is expected to propel the company into the top 25 global pharmaceutical firms with combined revenues of $12.4 billion. The acquisition specifically targets Organon’s extensive portfolio in women’s health and biosimilars, increasing Sun Pharma’s innovative medicine segment from 20% to 27% of its total sales and providing a significant manufacturing footprint across the European Union and emerging markets.

  3. Global military spending reached a record $2.89 trillion in 2025, driven primarily by a 14% surge in European rearmament. While the U.S. remains the world's top spender at $954 billion, its total expenditure actually dipped by 7.5% due to a lack of new financial assistance for Ukraine. This vacuum, coupled with geopolitical uncertainty, has forced European and Asian allies to significantly increase their own "military burden," with Germany exceeding the 2% GDP NATO guideline for the first time since 1990.
