1. Coca-Cola is diving into the prebiotic soda market with Simply Pop, a new fruity beverage aimed at competing with Olipop and Poppi. Launching in late February on the West Coast and Southeast, Simply Pop boasts no added sugar, real fruit juice, and six grams of prebiotic fiber—triple Poppi’s but less than Olipop’s. While digestive health sodas have surged from $197M in 2020 to $440M in 2024, they remain a fraction of the multibillion-dollar soda industry. With Pepsi eyeing a 2025 prebiotic launch, Coke’s latest move tests whether its market dominance can outmatch startup innovation.

2. President Donald Trump’s plan to eliminate income taxes on Social Security benefits could cost the U.S. government $1.5 trillion over a decade, increasing federal debt by 7% by 2054, according to the Penn Wharton Budget Model. While high-income households would see the largest tax breaks—potentially gaining up to $100,000 over their lifetimes—future generations, particularly those under 30 and unborn, would bear the financial burden. The proposed tax cut, coupled with efforts to extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, faces budgetary constraints, raising concerns over Social Security’s solvency and intergenerational fairness.

3. A Delta Air Lines regional jet carrying 80 people crashed on landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport, flipping over and injuring at least 18 passengers, including two in critical condition. The CRJ-900 flight from Minneapolis crashed at 2:45 p.m. ET amid high winds and snowy conditions, briefly halting airport operations. Delta canceled remaining flights to and from Toronto and issued travel waivers. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is leading the investigation, with U.S. agencies assisting.
