  1. The collapse of Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge, a vital shipping route for the U.S. economy, has caused significant disruptions following a cargo ship collision. The incident has blocked access to the Port of Baltimore, one of the nation's busiest ports, affecting nationwide supply chains. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore emphasized the national economic impact, noting that the fallout would affect various sectors across the country. U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg highlighted the urgency of reopening the port and the complexity of the salvage operation. The bridge's collapse not only disrupts cargo flow but also impacts thousands of jobs directly and indirectly linked to the port. The federal government has committed to funding a significant portion of the rebuild, with discussions ongoing about covering the full costs. The situation underscores the importance of the Port of Baltimore to the U.S. economy and the long-term effort required for recovery.

  2. Kia is recalling over 427,000 Telluride SUVs from 2020 to 2024 model years due to a risk of the vehicles rolling away while parked. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration highlighted an issue with the engagement of the intermediate shaft and right front driveshaft that could cause unintended vehicle movement. The recall, which covers vehicles manufactured between January 9, 2019, and October 19, 2023, was initiated after identifying improper assembly as the likely cause, affecting an estimated 1% of these vehicles. To address the issue, dealers will update the electronic parking brake software and replace any damaged intermediate shafts at no cost to owners, who will also be reimbursed for previous repairs related to the defect. Kia advises owners to use the emergency brake manually as a precaution until the fix is applied. Notification letters to owners are scheduled for May 15, with dealer notifications preceding this.
