Netflix has launched its inaugural "What We Watched" report, providing detailed viewership statistics for its content, marking a significant shift in its traditionally guarded approach to data transparency. The report ranks shows and movies based on viewing hours over the past six months, with updates planned every six months. This move, acknowledged by co-CEO Ted Sarandos, aims to address the creator community's concerns over transparency and aligns with demands for better compensation models and advertising needs. The report covers over 18,000 titles, representing 99% of all viewing on Netflix, and reveals that 55% of viewing between January and June came from original content.
Apple is introducing "Stolen Device Protection," a new security feature for iPhones, to enhance security when attackers learn a user's passcode. This feature adds an extra layer of security, especially when the phone is not at familiar locations like home or work. With Stolen Device Protection enabled, FaceID is required in addition to the passcode for sensitive actions, such as accessing passwords or changing the Apple ID password. This response comes after reports of scams where attackers obtain passcodes from users. The feature, currently available in the latest iOS 17.3 developer beta, will be rolled out to all users in the coming weeks, reflecting Apple's commitment to evolving device security.
