Nvidia has announced a massive $4 billion strategic investment divided equally between photonics leaders Lumentum and Coherent, marking a critical step in securing the hardware pipeline for "gigawatt-scale" AI factories. By injecting $2 billion into each U.S.-based company, Nvidia is not only funding the development of advanced silicon photonics and laser components but also locking in multi-year purchase commitments and future capacity rights amidst a tightening global supply chain. This move highlights the growing importance of light-based data transmission (photonics) in overcoming the physical bottlenecks of traditional copper-based systems as AI models demand ever-faster communication between millions of microchips. CEO Jensen Huang’s commitment to these partnerships signals that the next frontier of AI infrastructure will rely as much on high-performance optical networking as it does on GPU processing power, effectively positioning Lumentum and Coherent as indispensable pillars of Nvidia’s long-term data center architecture.
Paramount CEO David Ellison confirmed on Monday that Paramount+ and HBO Max will be integrated into a single, unified streaming service following the completion of Paramount Skydance’s landmark $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The announcement follows a high-stakes bidding war where Netflix ultimately withdrew, unwilling to match Paramount's $31-per-share offer for the entire WBD empire, including CNN and TNT Sports. While a new name and pricing structure for the combined platform have yet to be revealed, the merger is set to create a digital powerhouse with approximately 200 million subscribers and a massive library featuring franchises like Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and Mission: Impossible. Ellison emphasized that while the technology will be consolidated, the HBO brand will remain a distinct "independent" entity within the service to preserve its legacy for high-quality programming, a move that comes less than a year after Warner Bros. Discovery reverted the "Max" name back to HBO Max in a self-admitted strategic pivot.
NASA is poised to make history with its Artemis II mission, the first crewed journey to the lunar vicinity in over 50 years, featuring a crew that includes the first woman and first Black astronaut to travel to the moon. Mission specialist Christina Koch and pilot Victor Glover will join commander Reid Wiseman and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen on a 10-day flyby that will venture roughly 4,700 miles beyond the far side of the moon, shattering distance records for human spaceflight. While the mission was recently delayed from its February target due to technical hurdles—including a liquid hydrogen leak and a helium system issue that forced a temporary rocket rollback to the hangar—the crew has officially re-entered quarantine as NASA targets a revised launch window as early as March 6, 2026. This pivotal flight serves as a critical stress test for the Space Launch System (SLS) and Orion’s life-support systems, paving the way for a redefined Artemis program that aims to land humans on the lunar surface by 2028 while fostering international "goodwill" research partnerships.
