  1. Uber and General Motors’ Cruise have announced a multi-year partnership to offer driverless rides via Uber starting next year. This collaboration comes as Cruise seeks to rejuvenate its robotaxi business following a significant setback in October 2023, when a driverless Cruise vehicle dragged a pedestrian in San Francisco. The incident led to leadership changes and layoffs at Cruise. Despite the challenges, Cruise CEO Marc Whitten and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi are optimistic about the partnership, highlighting a commitment to safety. Specific details about the partnership and the relaunch of Cruise’s driverless service remain under wraps.

  2. The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and its players have reached a landmark collective bargaining agreement, making the NWSL the first professional sports league in the U.S. to grant unrestricted free agency to all players. The new deal, which extends through 2030, eliminates the draft, allowing newcomers to choose their preferred teams and negotiate contracts directly. This change is expected to attract top international talent, aligning the league more closely with European soccer standards. The agreement also raises the minimum player salary from $48,500 in 2025 to $82,500 by 2030 and introduces a revenue-sharing model to boost player earnings. Other key provisions include guaranteed contracts, no trades without player consent, expanded parental leave, and a supplemental housing stipend, reflecting the league’s commitment to supporting its players both on and off the field. This deal coincides with a surge in NWSL popularity, with attendance up 42% and viewership nearly doubling year-over-year.
