  1. After harming the economy for the past two years, For the first time since 2021, Q2 residential investment is expected to impact GDP positively. The positive impact is driven by the highest new construction activity in over a year, signaling an end to an 8-quarter slump. The surge in activity is linked to decreasing material costs, improved logistics, and scarcity of existing homes. Yet, potential risks like increasing interest rates and possible construction slowdowns as backlogs diminish could pose challenges.

  2. IBM is reportedly negotiating to acquire software company Apptio in a strategic move to further its focus on automation technology. Sources, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that the potential purchase price is between $4.5 billion and $5 billion. Apptio is presently under the ownership of private equity firm Vista Equity Partners.
